FILMS ABOUT ARTISTS’ LIVES

'The Best Offer'(2014)
'The Best Offer'(2014)

I don't know about you but I love watching films about artists and artists' lives. I just started compiling a list, most of which I've seen. I'm sure some of you would like to share your favorites with me as well.

Some of my favorites are by film directors that are/ have been or wanted to be painters. I feel a kinship with these filmmakers because of their strong visual creations. When you write the title of the film and know the director, please write that down too.

I will keep adding to this list with your suggestions. Hopefully, we'll have a solid list of films. Something to watch on a rainy day. Thanks for contributing to this list.

I started this list a while ago, as a forum post on Artfinder ( a wonderful platform with an engaged community of artists from around the world) and it has grown over time into the list you see here. It will keep growing as films about artists and artists’ lives are many and they keep coming.

Because I received inquiries regarding this list from people that are not registered artists on Artfinder, I wanted to make it available for all of you out there, interested in this topic. Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

It's going to be a blog about art and life and anything in between that I find relevant to the artist life. So, follow with me on this adventure and we'll journey along some interesting topics.

Interested is seeing these films. Where can I find them?

Many of you have asked about how you can find and watch these films. Some have an active link (if you hover above the text). Some are harder to find. I managed to see a lot of them over time but not quite all, either on TV, cinema, or through streaming channels.

Film about Maude Lewis. Maudie, 2016 Director: Airline Walsh Cast: Sally Hawkins, Ethan Hawke A Canadian/Irish production. Currently on Netflix in Canada

Thanks, Diane! I had a look at the trailer and looks very promising. I'm definitely going to add it to the list.

What about the fine film based on a”the play about Rothko called “Red”?
